How Others Make Money Using YouTube - How You CAN

How Other Businesses use YouTube to Make Money

How to Make Money for your company with Video
Just posting a video on YouTube doesn't
 make your company any richer
than if you posted on Facebook.

(It’s not magic)

Video is everywhere, and it makes sense. Users not only can see what you are selling but see it demonstrated which can help drive conversions. The problem for most businesses is how to make that video pay for its production (and hopefully for more). They take the time to either create a video themselves or pay to have a professional create it, plop it on YouTube and wham it’s lost to the world. The only way anyone is going to notice it is if you promote YouTube on your website by implanting the embed code there (complete with a link back to YouTube and advertisements that YouTube makes money off). Ok well I think we have uncovered how YouTube makes money (off you) so how to do you make money using YouTube?

Let’s be honest the majority of people who use YouTube aren't covering production costs.

That’s right not only are they not making money  but if you take into account the time used to create said video they are now sitting negative.

Why use YouTube?

Many companies may have already spent a lot of time and money building a following, and Google does index YouTube videos but aside from that people generally use it because they don’t realize there are better options. Heck if you haven’t built up a following on YouTube but do have a following on Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn or Facebook you can actually skip YouTube.

How You SHOULD Use YouTube (if you want to make money that is)

Promotion.
YouTube should be like Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest or Google+ for you, scratch that it should be lower on the totem because the other social networking sites are more likely to get reposted and lead to conversations and conversions. YouTube is where you should post the most basic of videos such as: Company History, Product Introduction, copies of commercials. Items that you can block comments from and that you don’t need absolute control over.

To make money off YouTube you will need a different video management and delivery company. (Heck we’d love to suggest ourselves foryour consideration.) A private video management & delivery system will allow you to brand control and sell your content.

Correct Formula for Making Money with Video

The biggest step is that middle one that turns it into income.

You’ll notice we grouped all the big Social sites in there, they are all free publicity, but to make money you need the middle step. Your content is worth something, same as your knowledge. It’s just a matter of figuring out how best to use it:

Trainers, Coaches, Speakers, Teachers, Specialists
Sell your knowledge, like you would traditionally by making a book or DVD. You just don’t have to worry about making something physical anymore, now you can sell subscriptions or learning courses easily online or on your mobile device.

Plumbers, Bakers, Artists, Florists
Display your capability. Set yourself apart by showing your knowledge and demonstrating your skills. You could still sell some videos about the best techniques to do it yourself, but really the selling point for you will be WHY you are better than the competition.

Now that we've illustrated how companies make money off YouTube (and honestly any other Social Site) we’d love to help answer your questions or help you craft the best use of media to help your business.

Use Video to Improve Conversion Rates

How Video Can Improve Conversion Rates

You’ve probably seen the different studies and claims that video has a significant impact on conversion and it makes sense. Video gives you the opportunity to experience how a product or service can help you in a different way than just an image or text can. Not only can you see something, but you can hear it and video can be enhanced with informational images and text to help explain it even better. It gives you the chance to mix an in person experience with a professional presentation.

Let’s look at this example and you’ll see why.

Just a Title

Pug in need of adoption – call us

Title with description

Pug in need of adoption – call us
Small Pug breed dog up for adoption, up to date on all shots and approximately 3 years of age.

 Words with a picture

Oh wow, that's a cute dog.
Pug in need of adoption – call us
Small Pug breed dog up for adoption, up to date on all shots and approximately 3 years of age.

Oh wow, that's a cute dog.
Pug in need of adoption – call us
Small Pug breed dog up for adoption, up to date on all shots and approximately 3 years of age.

You can see that video reaches an entirely new level; just watching the dog move will move more people to consider adoption and increases his chances of finding a home. You’ll notice the same for other items, more companies offer videos describing products and services. The more information you have the more comfortable you feel making that decision or at least considering it.

Our Enterprise is definitely the preferred tool of choice for Videographers to learn more about the Enterprise click here.

Your Enterprise Includes

  • Mobile Uploading & Mobile Content Management (including view reports)
  • Member Manager so you can use a subscription to grant your customers accounts but maintains control
  • Ability for Users to download video
  • Easy ability to embed playlists or videos for your clients

If you wish to manage all your client content you won’t need a subscription system and can use a basic Enterprise Solution delivering the embed codes to your client.

Wizard Website Solution for Video Producers

This is a less powerful but still fully functional solution for Videographers with a tight budget, with a basic Wizard costing just $99 for set up and $25 a month after that with unlimited video uploads. There are 2 ways to use the Website Wizard to help keep your video secure.
  •        Password Protected Pages, using the default video website wizard account you can add video to a page and enable the password protection. Only users who know the password can view the video. The only downside is you can’t allow downloads of the video this way.
  •         Media Viewer + Password Protected Pages is the ideal way to use the Wizard as a videographer, with the difference in price just being $15/month. The Media viewer not only lets your clients view content, but they can leave comments and download media as well.

Reusing Your Blog Articles

How to Get The Most Out of Your Content

Your time is worth a lot, get the most from what you create.
You have probably heard that “content is King”, it can help users find you through search engines, establish you as an authority in your field, resolve consumer issues, sell products and more. Just as well known is how much work creating content can be. Many experts suggest you make a routine out of creating blog posts about relevant topics but if you are going through all that work to create content why not get more out of it?

Your blog article can be turned into a variety of media resources, allowing your users to pick and share the format they like best.

Take your blog entry and use it to create:

  • Video, just add visuals and a vocal track to the content you've already written
    • Even better if you create an SRT and offer Closed Caption
  • Pinterest, hop on over to Photoshop or just include a Pinterest button on your completed article and be sure to share it to a board.
  • Audio, podcasts were one of the most popular forms of media for years but even though video is more available that doesn't mean the podcast audience is extinct. Offering a podcast is a nice alternative because users can stream it while they do other things.
  • PDF, sometimes you really just need a document you can send off to people so they have all the information right there. This also allows you to reach users who would rather print things out and have the information in hand (literally).
  • Many field experts collect their blog entries and create a book or digital book as well.

You took the time to make that content, get the most out of it.

Using Video When Creating a Lesson or Training Plan

How to Create Effective Educational / Training Videos
How to use video to make complex lessons or training easier.

Everyone learns differently, video can help you reach people
who may have had a hard time otherwise
When it comes to training your coworkers or clients it’s not uncommon to feel like all you are doing is repeating yourself. Sometimes it can be hard to keep straight what you’ve told whom and it can be even harder for them to retain all that you’ve taught them. This is something you can overcome by making common requests into a video, a video can be shared and viewed at anytime.

Benefits of Teaching and Training through Video

  • You only need to create the material once
  • Item can be sent to those in need with ease
  • You can track what content people are viewing the most of
  • Those in need can look up this resource at anytime
  • Video works well with visual learners
  • People are more likely to view a video than to ask for help

Using Video To Gain Information

  • You can track Video views to see what content is most popular
  • You can learn what days of the week are the best for new content
  • Enterprise users can track member activity
  • We also offer more advanced tracking to let you know more

Tips for Creating a Successful Educational Video

How to create training videos that work
Video training is not only easy to create and use but your
clients can use it from home in addition to work.
  • Title your video in a way that is easy to remember and informative
    • For example a video about Search Engine Optimization Tools in the Wizard might be titled “SEO Wizard Tools” you can always add a description that says more but your title should be straight to the point so people can spot it browsing a playlist
  • Create a video Description, this is where you can define information even further
  • Closed Caption is a wonderful tool, be sure to create and upload an SRT file
  • Plan out your video, just like you would with a good training session. Outline what you want to cover and what you really would like to emphasis
  • Use visuals, the use of images will not only make your video more interesting but will make it easier to explain things
    • Use screencaptures from any software
    • Use slideshows like you would with PowerPoint
    • Use images of the product or procedure
  • Make sure to use simple to understand language, no need to confuse your audience
  • Keep the video focused and on one topic, if you need to make multiple videos that’s fine. Making a video too long or complex will lead to viewers losing focus.
    • Example: Making the Best Meal Ever
      • Video 1: Making Cheese Rolls
      • Video 2: Making Chicken Pot Pie
      • Video 3: Making a Chocolate Cake
    • As one video the above would be too long and viewers may only be interested in one of the videos in the sequence

Interested in expanding your training into video? Give us a call, consultation is free.

How to Promote Your New Business - Showing What You Know

Show What You Know

This is your chance to help build a new
base of customers or clients.

Help establish your business as being credible by sharing your knowledge with your potential customers

When it comes to websites the competition is strong, to stay on top you need to make sure you are doing all you need to set yourself apart, without breaking the budget that is. Your website is how many customers will find you and may be the only factor they use when deciding to do business with you. It’s because of this that you need your website to deliver an added touch, and that’s you.

Not only can you use video as an introduction to your services or products but you can use it to show HOW to use them/do things.  We've seen this approached used successfully for everything from plumbers to job hunting experts and lawyers. The key is to not to give away too much, you still want them to do business with you, but to give them enough to see that you know what you are talking about.

What should I make videos about?

That depends what you are selling, for example a dog groomer may want to do a video with tips on how to make your dog feel comfortable on their ride to the groomers. Not only would this video be relevant to what the customer needs but it helps the business show that they care and may even result in some calmer four legged buddies. It’s finding that all around balance that can be tricky.

Other Examples:
  • Language Coach : Cover some quick common questions by demonstrating the right way to do them but don’t go into too much detail. (Demonstrates knowledge)
  • House Cleaning / Maid Service : Help make your job easier by giving viewers tips like just spraying down the shower when they get out. (Another great win-win)
  • Lawn-care : Show the best way to set up a sprinkler and when to water.
  • Plumbers : Detail simple at home fixes that aren't worth your time to attend to
  • Chimney Cleaners : Make a video to help visitors identify if they have animals in their chimney.

The Benefits

Remember to share links to your published content
on your social accounts.
You may not notice the benefits at first but as they start to reveal themselves you may be surprised with how powerful video can be for communicating.
  • Gain credibility by demonstrating relevant knowledge / skills
  • Build back-links when people share links to your content
  • Gain visits, many search engines will rank relevant video content higher than text alone
  • Build a relationship with future customers, after all now they have a face and voice to match with the company
  • Increase visit duration, meaning folks will stay on your website longer if there is something to learn
  • Use the video as a base to build relevant content, the more useful content you have the more likely you are to turn up in search engine results
  • Practice your presentation skills

Getting Started

You may find the concept of turning on your camera to make a video a little intimidating at first but don’t fret. Start small, simple and short for your videos and don’t worry if you have to take more than 1 go at it. While professional videos are amazing you can start with content made at home and when you budget allows move up. Just sit down and write down the 5 things you get asked most or the 5 things you wish your customers knew/did. Pick 1 and write out what you would say, then get ready and get filming. While you start out don’t be ashamed to use something like Windows Movie Maker to start editing your video, remember fancier content costs money. Start small and move up.
